When it comes time for people to start making plans to travel for their vacation, business trips or getaways, one of the things travelers are cautious about these days is picking up their hotels being extremely cautious while selecting them for their stay to avoid bedbug bites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many news reports in recent years have focused on the discovery of\nbedbugs and their health effects (even in upscale five-star hotels), and a\nnumber of lawsuits have been filed by guests in hotels who awoke to find\nhundreds of bedbug bites covering their skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bedbug can live without blood \u2014 its food source \u2014 for up to 18\nmonths. “Females can lay up to 4 eggs a day in hidden locations; up to 5\nto 10 a week and up to 500 in her lifetime,” according to Eisenberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research shows that 82% of hotels in\nthe United States have treated for bed bugs in the past year. 40% of all hotels\nhave undergone treatment in the past month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the hospitality industry continues\nto seek out ways to provide their guests with some peace of mind, the exploding\npest control industry\u2014which is expected to reach $10 billion in service revenue\nby 2020\u2014is also seeking out new solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The creatures don’t have wings and\nthey can’t fly or jump. But their narrow body shape and ability to live for\nmonths without food make them ready to survive and settle. Bedbugs can easily\nhide in the seams and folds of luggage, bags, and clothes. They also take\nshelter behind wallpaper and inside bedding, box springs, and furniture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The insects are most\nactive at night, though they are not exclusively nocturnal. Bedbugs are\nattracted to warmth, moisture and the carbon dioxide released by\nhumans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The effect of bedbugs on human health and reports of\nbedbug infestations of certain hotels has received media attention in recent\nyears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests at Disneyland\ngenerally expect to find large, friendly anthropomorphic rodents during their\nstay, but bedbugs? Not so much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ivy Eldridge, who visited\nthe park with her family in April 2018, is claiming she suffered both physical\nand emotional damage after waking up at Anaheim\u2019s Disneyland Hotel covered in\nbedbug bites, according to a lawsuit filed earlier last week, The Los Angeles Times and Fox News report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Eldridge also claims she\nrequired medical treatment following the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Eldridge\u2019s lawyer Brian Virag, of legal firm My Bed Bug Lawyer, Inc, filed the lawsuit on her behalf and named Walt Disney Co. and Disney Parks and Resorts as defendants in addition to Disneyland Hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPeople put trust in the\nDisney name and pay top dollar to stay at Disneyland Hotel. In this case, Ms\nEldridge\u2019s trust was betrayed,\u201d Mr Virag said in an article posted to the My\nBed Bug Lawyer website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Brazilian model is suing Palm Desert\nEmbassy Suites, a Hilton hotel, claiming she was “massacred” by\nbed bugs during a stay in one of their hotel rooms two years ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a lawsuit filed in Riverside\nCounty Superior Court, Sabrina Jales St. Pierre says a severe reaction to\nthe bites affected her ability to model and caused her pain,\ndiscomfort and emotional distress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jales St. Pierre, who has modeled for\nbrands including Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Valentino, Versace and\nVictoria\u2019s Secret, is seeking monetary and punitive damages against the\ndefendants, which include Hilton Worldwide, Inc., Hilton Worldwide Holdings, Inc.,\nEmbassy Suites Management, LLC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSabrina started noticing the bed bug\nbites after her first night in the hotel, and eventually she was massacred by\nbites covering pretty much her entire body,\u201d said her attorney, Brian Virag,\nfounder of the My Bed Bug Lawyer, Inc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virag said the model\u2019s bites were among the worst he has seen in his eight years<\/strong> specializing in bed bug litigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
