These little crawlers won\u2019t spread germs or bite you, but they can really be a pain in one\u2019s life as they create damages in our personal belongings and homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silverfish feed on any carbohydrate they can find. This can\nresult in damaged wallpaper, fabrics and clothing, and almost anything\ncontaining starches or glues. They can cause extensive damages to the valuable\nbooks, photographs, paintings, plaster and other household items containing\nstarch or cellulose. They also cause yellow stains, lowering the value of your\nhome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silverfish\nlay eggs all year round unlike most pests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silverfish get their name from the insect\u2019s silvery, metallic\nappearance and fish-like shape, long thread like antennas and movements.\nSilverfish are found throughout the U.S. and are typically seen in moist, humid\nareas in the home, such as living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, basements and\nattics, garages and shake roofs.  In\nfact, shake roofs are excellent breeding sites for silverfish during the warmer\nmonths, as there\u2019s an abundance of moisture, cellulose, starch and dead\ninsects. From there, they can easily gain entrance and move down through the\ninsulation to enter a structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silverfish are also known to infest commercial structures\nsuch as offices, stores and libraries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These nocturnal and delicate pests which can cause an\ninfestation to go unnoticed for a long period of time until substantial damages\nhave been done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kamil Sahin and his 10-year-old daughter Cemo\nhave been left disappointed by the way Spectrum has dealt with their issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just last week Cemo was shocked to discover a\nliving silverfish inside a dictionary she was using for her school homework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt makes me feel sick,\u201d she said. \u201cIf an\nengineer came here and lifted up the carpet I think they would find hundreds of\nsilverfish.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Sahin said the silverfish are seen on a\ndaily basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\nIrish houses are being invaded by pests, with the inclement weather creating infestations of silverfish insects in our homes.\n\n<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Pest control company Rentokil reported a 171% increase in the\nnumbers of callouts about the small wingless insects in January 2018, compared to the same\nperiod last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They say infestations of silverfish could be down to the damp\nconditions the country has experienced, as silverfish thrive in cool, dark and\nmoist areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The critters, which can live for up to three years, love\nbathrooms as they can feed on dead skin, hair and even shampoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Insecticides and some biological control\npractices are being implemented but these are proved to be ineffective. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We need a solution that is effective, eco-\nfriendly and easy to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
