<\/figure>Rhinoceros Beetles are among the largest of beetles in the world. The Rhinoceros Beetle is aptly named because it has horns on its head, very much like the rhinoceros does. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
All rhinoceros beetles are\nherbivorous. The adults feed on fruit, nectar, and sap. The larvae eat decaying\nplant matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rhinoceros beetle is\nmainly a pest of coconut and oil palms. The beetle\u2019s damage palms by\nboring into the center of the crown, injuring the young growing tissues and\nfeed on the released sap. As they bore into the crown, they cut through the\ndeveloping leaves. The damage can significantly reduce coconut production\nand kill the tree. The beetle is also known to feed on economically important\ncommercial crops such as bananas, sugarcane, papayas, sisal, pineapples, and\ndate palms. Unfortunately, when one beetle finds a tasty tree, it calls in its\nfriends for a mass attack!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Detection can be difficult\ndue to the beetle\u2019s nocturnal activity and residence within trees. Visual signs\nsuch as holes bored at the base of leaves and V-shaped feeding damage help\nlocate this beetle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
