JOHOR BARU: One of the state\u2019s oldest special schools,\nSK Pen\u00addidikan Khas Princess Elizabeth, is in dire need of repairs as some of\nits buildings have been infested by termites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The affected areas include the school\u2019s\nassembly hall, several classrooms, the surau and the canteen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceilings and beams in the school, which was built\nin 1953, have also been damaged by termites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Education, Human Res\u00adource, Science and\nTechnology Committee chairman Aminolhuda Hassan, who visited the school\nyesterday, said the Education Ministry had been alerted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are awaiting a report from the ministry. The\nschool building is 66 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Public Works Department issued a notice in July\nlast year to cordon off the hall as heavy rain and termite infestation had\ncaused multiple holes in the roof,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veterans Memorial High School has a\ntermite problem that has cost the district $199,500. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nCorpus Christi ISD board of trustees approved the expenditure in April for\ntermite remediation at the 3-year-old campus, according to the board’s April 23\nconsent agenda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elite\nExterminating, a Corpus Christi company, was hired to do the work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
