Passengers reported bugs an inch long were falling from\noverhead lockers as they prepared to take off. As a result, the trip was\ndelayed 24 hours so that the aircraft could be fumigated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers were apparently left \u2018screaming in\nterror\u2019 on an Air Transat flight from Gatwick this week, as cockroach like bugs\ntumbled onto their heads. Apparently falling from overhead lockers, the \u2018brown\nbeetles with wings\u2019 were seen scurrying along the aisle as flight attendants\nattempted to squash them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Transat flight TS177 was due to depart from London Gatwick on\nWednesday 26th<\/sup> June, heading to\nVancouver in Canada. Passengers boarded the Airbus A330, registered C-GGTS, on\ntime and were taking their seats when bugs began falling from overhead lockers\nonto their heads and laps. British Airways had to ground a jet\nafter the cabin crew refused to fly on it due to a bedbug infestation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They walked out minutes\nbefore take-off and were beyond their working hours when a replacement plane\nwas found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight to Ghana\neventually left Heathrow four hours late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the latest bedbug\nembarrassment to hit BA in recent months \u2014 amid protests that cheap cleaning\ncontractors are not doing a proper job preparing jets for flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BA has been battling to\nrestore its reputation after being accused of poor customer service and cutting\nperks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A BA source said: \u201cThe\ncabin crew saw bedbugs crawling over the seats \u2014 visible to the naked eye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
